‘The Mona Lisa was a big disappointment’ | Lifestyle

Most beautiful travel memory

“One of our best journeys was undoubtedly our first time in South Africa. In more than three weeks we have covered more than 4000 kilometers with our rental car and really explored every corner. From the Big Five to the giant tortoises just below the Mozambique border, everything was great and everyone was friendly and kind. ”

“Years later we went to South Africa again, now in combination with a game drive in Botswana where our stay was an hour’s drive from the border of South Africa. Unfortunately my partner was getting sicker and we had to go back in a hurry. Simon had to undergo urgent surgery on his appendix, followed by the necessary complications, which meant that we could only go home after seven weeks. ”

Longest / furthest journey

“Australia, New Years Eve in Sydney, followed by a great tour and family visit. It was also nice to go back to the Netherlands after more than four weeks. ”

Longest delay

“Australia, Alice Springs. After a stopover, the plane had problems, so we were forced to spend a day and a half in the outback had to spend. Still a highlight: Alice Springs is home to the Flying Doctors, with a nice museum. Although it reminded me more of the movie Priscilla, queen of the desert where the entire company was stranded just like us! ”

Lost suitcases

“Our suitcases were not taken on the return journey from Naples. Due to a malfunction in the baggage belt system, the suitcases were already stacked meters high in the departure hall. Then we knew immediately that we would land without suitcases. Two days later, KLM delivered them neatly at home. Sometimes it is also nice not to have to hear the washing machine for two days immediately after your holiday. ”

“In Sri Lanka we had a religious holiday on which alcohol was not allowed. It was very hot and we were really looking forward to a beer. Our driver knew something about it. After he had talked to the ministry, they arrived with a large tray filled with English tea service where every jar was actually filled with beer. ”

Always with you

“A blank notepad to write down all the experiences.”

Craziest eaten

“Crocodile meat, not bad, it tasted like chicken.”

Most beautiful meeting

“Because we love to travel, you always meet a lot of different people along the way. Sometimes very nice things arise from this and you eat together or agree to go on a local trip together. ”

Favorite address

“Ribot restaurant in Milan. If you like meat you will not be short of anything, everything from the charcoal grill and super cozy because you eat outside under the vines. It is almost impossible to get more Italian! ”

Best advice

“Adapt to the many habits and customs that we do not know in our own country. That makes every holiday a lot more fun. ”

“The Mona Lisa in the Louvre. After many stairs, long galleries and even longer queues, we were chased past the painting by the attendants. Really disappointing! ”
