If EVs don’t get cheaper, “the market will collapse,” Arnaud Deboeuf, head of production at Stellantis, told Bloomberg. It’s not just here that funding is controversial. But hey, that used to be 100,000 marks. And even if the vast majority of people don’t pay for their car in cash, the sums are a deterrent.

Batteries are what make e-cars expensive. And the desire for more range doesn’t make them smaller either. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares believes the industry will face battery and raw material shortages in the coming years. That’s what VW CEO Herbert Diess thinks too: “The bottleneck in Europe and elsewhere could be batteries and battery cell factories from the middle of the decade,” he told the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. And BMW? According to CEO Oliver Zipse, the risks with batteries do not lie in production or the supplier structure, but in the supply of raw materials.
