Splendid! Two and a half weeks vacation with the family in Italy, Austria, Bavaria. But even on vacation I can’t do without cars entirely: We went camping for the first time, with our Beachy caravan. If you’re only allowed to drive 100 km/h on the freeway, you learn a lot: In the end, I felt like truck drivers, if you want to overtake, sometimes only pulling out in cold blood helps. Rarely does anyone leave you in the left lane.
I have to admit: I didn’t dare to experiment with an e-car as a towing vehicle plus my wife, three children and a journey of 1200 kilometers to the Adriatic Sea. Having to charge every 200 kilometers and then not being able to find a charging station that you can drive to with a trailer – that spoils the holiday joy considerably. My alternative: a diesel, for which 2.15 euros per liter was due, in Italy it was 2.02 euros. With a consumption of around 12 liters with a caravan (without a trailer it’s only 7.2), that’s not a bargain either. Incidentally, a few Dutch people were braver than me: we met Tesla and VW ID.4, who made the trip south with caravans – and it took twice as long to get there.
