Visually close to classic transit
The charging port of the E-Transit is hidden under the flap in the radiator grille.
The electric version of the popular delivery van differs optically only in detail from the previous Transit. The most noticeable innovation is probably the radiator grille with its blue struts. It also houses the charging port, which is hidden in the middle under a cover. Otherwise, the Transit remains well known from the sheet metal. A.In the interior too, only the standard 12-inch infotainment with Sync 4 can be considered new. With it, the Ford is always online thanks to the built-in SIM card and, in addition to a navigation system, now also offers improved voice recognition. Otherwise, the E-Transit also takes over the cockpit of the classic Transit with a combustion engine.
Lots of torque for the van
Thanks to its independent suspension, the E-Transit will also bring an additional level of comfort.
It is of course different with the drive. The combustion engine disappears and is exchanged for a 198 kW (269 PS) electric motor on the rear axle. The maximum torque of the unit is 430 Nmwhat should get the transit off the spot even fully loaded. The range is not yet fully homologated, but Ford assumes that it will be after the WLTP cycle up to 350 km. This is made possible by a 67 kWh battery on which the Cologne-based company even wants to give a full eight years or 160,000 km guarantee. The same applies to all high-voltage components. Precise information on the warranty conditions will be announced at the market launch. The new E-Transit should be able to charge the battery pack from 15 to 80 percent within 34 minutes using direct current and a maximum charging power of up to 115 kW. With alternating current and 11.3 kW charging power, however, it takes a whole 8.2 hours, but here until it is fully charged.
E-Transit can be turned into a power bank if required
Market launch in spring 2022
The interior is basically known, but Ford has given the E-Transit a 12-inch display and Sync 4.
For commercial customers in particular, it will be important that Ford installed the batteries in such a way that the cargo space does not shrink. Furthermore, the empty van offers a maximum of 15.1 cubic meters of space for loading. Despite the heavy batteries, the transit should still be resilient. For example, Ford promises a payload of up to 1616 kg for the panel van, a pure chassis as the basis for superstructures even comes to 1967 kg. The E-Transit can be ordered in 25 different configuration options. The new E-Transit is scheduled to come onto the market in Europe in spring 2022, Ford is currently silent on the prices.
