The number of infections increases again slightly, other figures continue to fall

The corona figures in our country remain fairly stable. For the first time, however, there is an increase in the number of coronavirus infections. The other figures continue to decline slightly. This is evident from the latest figures on the dashboard of the Sciensano health institute.

The number of coronavirus infections in our country is increasing again. This is an increase of 2 percent. At the end of February it was still feared that we would have to deal with a sharp increase in the corona figures in March, but this has not been reached for the time being. Just like in recent days, there are no major changes in the corona figures in our country.

On average 2,422 new infections per day (+2 percent)

In the week from 2 to 8 March, an average of 2,422 new coronavirus infections were diagnosed daily in Belgium. That is an increase of 2 percent compared to a week earlier.

At the moment, an average of 43,922.9 corona tests are taken every day in our country. That is 6 percent more than in the previous seven-day period. The percentage of tests that turn out to be positive, the so-called positivity ratio, decreases very slightly. This is now 6.2 percent, which is 0.3 percent lower than yesterday.

Average of 146.1 hospital admissions per day (-6 percent)

A slight decrease can also be seen in the number of hospital admissions. That figure rose by more than 20 percent last week, but now it is a decrease of 1 percent to an average of 150.7 per day.

Yesterday, 1,910 patients were hospitalized after being infected with the corona virus. That is 37 fewer than the day before. 446 people are in the intensive care unit. That is 6 less than the day before. 250 people need to be ventilated.

Average of 25.6 deaths per day (-3.2 percent)

During the past week, an average of 25.6 patients died daily from the consequences of a corona infection. That is 3.2 percent less than a week earlier. In total, 22,370 people in our country have already died from the consequences of a corona infection.

To date, 687,558 Belgians have already received at least one dose of a corona vaccine. That accounts for 7.5 percent of the population over the age of 18 and 6 percent of the entire population. 357,337 people also received their second vaccination and are therefore fully vaccinated against the corona virus. This corresponds to 3.9 percent of adults in our country and 3.1 percent of the entire population.
