(MF with AFP and DPA) – The second wave of the pandemic is affecting Luxembourg as shown by the 240 new cases of people infected with covid-19 on Wednesday and Thursday. Containment in the spring led to a historic drop in gross domestic product in the second quarter in the United States, by 32.9% on an annualized basis. Increase in hospitalizations in France

The number of patients hospitalized in intensive care due to Covid-19 has increased slightly for the first time since early April in France, where the new daily cases exceed a thousand, announced Thursday the health authorities.

In total, 5.375 people are hospitalized for coronavirus infection, including 381 severe cases in intensive care, one more than the day before. Experts however expect a sharp rebound: in addition to national support measures, Berlin intends to take advantage of the European recovery plan of 750 billion euros, decided by the 27 in Brussels in mid-July.

60,000 contaminations in one day in Brazil

In Brazil, nearly 60,000 new contaminations were recorded on Thursday. Michelle Bolsonaro, wife of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, has tested positive for Covid-19, the presidency said, days after her husband said he had recovered.

The state of Sao Paulo, the most populous in Brazil, is the most affected by the epidemic, with nearly a quarter of the more than 90,000 deaths caused by the coronavirus in the country.
