Despite many announcements, the Rivian R1T is struggling to see the light of day. This does not prevent enthusiasts of the model from imagining many variations, including a hearty Heavy Duty version.
Based on massive investments from Ford, with which Rivian also shares a solid technical partnership, or even from Amazon, the American electric pickup is struggling to leave definitively. Meanwhile, its arrival on the roads, the brand occupies not without difficulty the media space and enthusiasts anticipate variations.
The latest proposal comes from the specialized digital group Rivian Owners Forum, which is studying the possibility of a Heavy Duty version of the Rivian R1T. Very popular with American professionals, these versions with twin rear axle allow heavy loads to be pulled without the drawbacks of a more bulky truck.
The power of electric power for professionals
Taking advantage of all the power of the electric motor, this R1T Heavy Duty could make the big undisputed arms of the segment blush. Among them, the Ford F-450 Heavy Duty whose oversized turbo diesel engines cannot compare with the four electric motors of the Rivian.
Recall that in its high-end version, the Rivian R1T has a 180 kWh battery and more than 700 hp mechanics for 1,120 Nm of torque. In this configuration, it has a towing capacity of 4,990 kg (11,000 lb) and a payload of 800 kg.
