If you used to manage your e-mails with Microsoft Outlook, but now want to switch to Thunderbird for cost reasons, for example, you can move your e-mails to the Mozilla program.

If Outlook is (still) installed on your computer, press the Alt key while Thunderbird is open, click in the menu bar on “Tools -› Import – ›Import all / Next” and then select Outlook for the import.
If you would like to import your e-mails into Thunderbird on another PC, first create an export file of all messages on the Outlook computer. To do this, click in Outlook on “File -› Open and Export – ›Import / Export -› Export to file – ›Outlook data file (.pst) -› Next – ›Finish -› OK “. Copy this PST file to the computer on which you want to use Thunderbird.
Install Outlook Viewer there as well. This tool converts your data from the export file so that Thunderbird can process them. Start Outlook Viewer and click on “File -› Open Outlook data file “, select the PST file and then activate the top directory level on the left. Now click on the “EML” button highlighted in red and define the export directory for the EML files in the following step. Press the “Start” button to begin converting the data.

A few steps and tools are required to move all emails from Outlook to Thunderbird, but the result is that the export and import work.
Now install the add-on “ImportExportTools” NG (www.pcwelt.de/YGi1TE) in Thunderbird and restart Thunderbird. Before you can finally import your e-mails from Outlook, you must first create an e-mail account in the Mozilla program. Then right-click in the folder overview on the left in the directory of the (new) account into which you want to import the Outlook messages: for example in the “Inbox”. In the context menu select the entry “ImportExportTools NG” and continue with “Import all messages from a directory -› Only from this directory ”. Here you select the folder that you previously set as the target in Outlook Viewer. Depending on the amount of data and the account configuration, you may need to be patient, especially the upload with the IMAP protocol takes some time.
