TikTok owner plunges into online education

The company plans to recruit 13,000 new employees, after which it plans to play a major role in homeschooling, Bloomberg reports.

Online education and educational technology have boomed in China in recent months. Because of the corona pandemic, just like in the Netherlands, people often study remotely. The market for online education in China is said to have grown by more than a third last year.


ByteDance’s education branch is called Dali, which loosely translates to ‘great strength’. Dali was founded last year and offers teaching methods across the entire breadth of the educational field. Then it goes from pre-primary education to adult education. Dali also invests in smart, connected teaching materials.


Over the next four months, ByteDance aims to attract 10,000 education professionals such as teachers and teaching and learning material designers. In addition, the company aims to attract 3000 recent graduates.

TikTok has over a billion active users worldwide. In addition to TikTok, ByteDance also has other video services, social media platforms and a news app.
