Touchpad on the notebook does not work – you can do that

You start your laptop and find that your touchpad is not working. How to fix the problem.

Step 1:

First of all, you may have accidentally disabled your touchpad using a key combination. To unlock the touchpad, you need a certain key combination again. This includes a button with the touchpad symbol. This symbol can be displayed differently depending on the notebook model, for example a field with two keys underneath that is either crossed out or has an “X” on the side. You can often find the touchpad symbol at the top of the row of function keys. If you have found the corresponding key on your mobile device, you also have to press Ctrl + Alt to unlock it.

Step 2:

If you cannot find a corresponding symbol or if nothing happens with the key combination, you can reactivate the pad via the Windows control panel. To do this, connect a mouse, enter Control Panel in the search field at the bottom left and click on “Control Panel App> Hardware and Sound> Devices and Printers” and then in the menu selection on “Mouse”. Now you see the properties of Mouse and select the tab on the far right – this is the touchpad, which you can now activate or deactivate here.

Step 3:

If you don’t get any further, you can release the lock by updating or reinstalling the touchpad driver. Open the Windows command prompt using the key combination Windows + R, enter the command devmgmt.msc and confirm with the Enter key. The Device Manager opens, in which you search for “Mice and other pointing devices”. Click on the little arrow to the left of it. You can see your touchpad in the list. Right-click on it to open a menu window, from which you select the option “Update driver” and then “Automatically search for drivers”. Follow the further instructions on the screen. After the driver update, your touchpad should react as usual.
