The Tour peloton started the tenth stage on Tuesday around 1.45 pm, a flat ride over 168 kilometers from the island of Île d’Oléron to another island, Île de Ré. The official go-ahead was not given this time by Christian Prudhomme, who had to leave the Tour after a positive corona test. None of the riders turned out to be infected. That was true for four staff members from different teams. Only after two positive tests within one team should a team no longer start.
The flat ride offers opportunities for the sprinters, but the wind can play a role in the route along the Atlantic Ocean. Jumbo-Visma’s leader Primoz Roglic rides in the yellow jersey for the first time. The Slovenian is 21 seconds ahead of Egan Bernal, last year’s Colombian Tour winner.
There are still 165 riders in the race. The Italian Domenico Pozzovivo has not started anymore.
The finish is expected around 5.30 pm.
