Toyota has filed a patent in the United States for a system that can estimate when a self-driving car needs a wash – and then drive itself to the car wash. This is reported by trade news site Jalopnik.
The system would keep an eye on the weather conditions, the time since the last wash and the amount of kilometers the car has driven. In addition, the GPS keeps an eye on whether the car has driven on unpaved roads. It is also taken into account when someone is going to use the car. This system is therefore particularly suitable for self-driving shared cars that people order on demand when they want to go somewhere.
Although it will probably take some time before the application of the patent becomes visible in daily life, Toyota provides part of the answer to the question of what the future may look like when we see many self-driving cars on the street.
