The technical data and the design of the GR Corolla are brutal down to the last detail. The market launch in Japan is already planned for the second half of 2022. It is unclear whether he will also come to Germany.

Appearance: The body is very similar to the Corolla Sport

Much of the body of the GR Corolla was carried over from the Corolla Sport. But the track width has been increased by 60 millimeters at the front and 85 mm at the rear. The fenders are also wider than on the Corolla Sport: 20 mm more at the front and 30 mm at the rear. The Corolla is 4.41 meters long, 1.85 meters wide and 1.48 meters high. Its wheelbase is 2.64 m.
The increased power requires more cooling for the engine and brakes. For this reason, air intakes were installed, for example, on the front bumper, on the hood and on the fenders.

The three exhaust tailpipes immediately catch the eye. They are equipped with silencers to reduce exhaust pressure.

The 18-inch rims also contribute to the sporty, aggressive look of the GR Corolla. Speaking of sporty: the rear is adorned with a distinctive roof edge spoiler and three exhaust tailpipes. The latter are equipped with silencers to reduce both exhaust pressure and noise.

Interior: sports car with space for the whole family

Despite its racetrack image, the GR Corolla offers space for a whole family: It comes with five doors and five seats. For the driver, however, everything is designed for driving pleasure. The shift lever is positioned in such a way that gear changes are as quick as possible. Enthusiasts should also like the manual handbrake. It was specially not electrified, so you can still drift in the old style.

Manual shifting and a real handbrake: a big plus for enthusiasts!

However, the TFT info display developed for the GR series has been modernized. The system should now be even more geared towards sporty driving than before.

Technology: GR Corolla with reinforced GR Yaris engine

Under the hood of the Toyota GR Corolla is a reinforced version of the 1.6 liter turbocharged in-line three-cylinder from the GR Yaris. It puts an impressive 304 hp and 370 Nm of torque on the road – and it weighs just 1474 kg! The many horses must be controlled with a manual six-speed gearbox. Toyota has not yet commented on the performance.

The GR Corolla is powered by the 1.6-liter turbocharged in-line three-cylinder from the GR Yaris – but in a more powerful version.

Like the GR Yaris, the new Corolla is all-wheel drive. The “GR-Four” all-wheel drive enables individual power distribution. The driver can decide which distribution he would like to have between the front and rear axles: 60:40, 50:50 or 30:70 are possible.

Models: GR Corolla “Circuit” will look even more brutal

The GR Corolla will be launched in the US and Japan in two model variants: Core and Circuit. The basic equipment Core comes with widened fenders, door sills with the lettering “GR-Four” and sports seats made of fabric.

The basic equipment of the Toyota GR Corolla looks a bit more inconspicuous, but it is no less sporty!

The Circuit will be launched in 2023. It gets additional extras compared to the Core: including a carbon roof, a domed hood and suede sports seats. The Circuit will only appear in a limited edition.

Price: GR Corolla arguably cheaper than main competitor Golf R

The Toyota GR Corolla will be launched in Japan in 2023 at the earliest. Unfortunately, it is still unclear whether it will then also be available in Europe – in addition to the USA.

Toyota has not yet commented on the costs either. The price of the Corolla GR should of course be higher than the GR Yaris, for which at least 34,000 euros are due. AUTO BILD estimates the basic price of the GR Corolla at just over 40,000 euros due to the higher performance and the larger vehicle class. The direct competitor of the Toyota GR Corolla, the VW Golf R, costs at least 51,835 euros.
