Toyota has unveiled images of its electric autonomous shuttle named e-Palette in operation, after it received the software to link it to the fleet management system developed by the brand. The latter wants to make its shuttle one of the public transport systems of Woven City, its connected smart city of the future.
Almost three years after Toyota announced a transition plan to electric mobility, which ended with the announcement of the e-Palette electric autonomous shuttle, the latter will finally be able to travel the roads, since the automotive giant has just completed the development of its operational management system.
The Toyota e-Palette was presented at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show and will be used for the first time at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, which should have taken place this year, and will be held next year. An e-Palette fleet will be used to transport Games athletes and employees between the Olympic Village and the various venues.
But Toyota’s ultimate goal with its self-driving car is to make it the primary transit system for its future city, Woven City. The firm had indeed presented a connected city, a smart city which should be built not far from Mount Fuji, and in which Toyota will develop its technologies of the future, of zero emission ’mobility and connectivity.
