Windows 11 is Microsoft’s first operating system without the Internet Explorer browser. The Redmond company officially retired the veteran at the age of 26 in June 2022. If you try to start Internet Explorer in Windows 11, the software will redirect you to the browser alternative Microsoft Edge.

. And that’s how it works:

  1. Search for “Internet Options” in the start menu

  2. Launch the Control Panel applet and select the Programs tab

  3. Click on “Manage add-ons” here

  4. Then click on “More information about toolbars and extensions”

With these steps, for a reason that is not yet known, Internet Explorer starts and bypasses all the commands that Windows 11 uses to force its users to Edge. Once started, Internet Explorer works the way Windows users are used to. Since this workaround is probably a bug, it can be expected that Microsoft will block it with one of the next updates.
