With FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution), AMD is now offering the second iteration of its upscaling technology for graphics cards from its own division, which also works with Nvidia GPUs. FSR 2.0 should offer a clear advantage in image quality compared to FSR 1.0. What both techniques have in common is that the games are rendered in a low resolution and are upscaled to the target resolution using FSR.
Free FSR 2.0 demo
If you want to try FSR 2.0, you don’t necessarily have to buy one of the five compatible PC games. Instead, AMD offers a free sample that acts as a demo for the five games. This allows you to compare the advantages of FSR 2.0 over its predecessor on your own PC.
Five games supported so far
Said demo offers numerous options. This allows you to switch through the different FSR modes, activate a magnifying glass or switch on a wireframe mode. So far, FSR 2.0 is only supported by the five games “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands”, “Farming Simulator 22”, “God of War”, “Deathloop” and by an unofficial mod for “Cyberpunk 2077”.
Even possible on consoles
According to AMD, FSR 2.0 was developed from scratch and has little in common with the first version. Compared to Nvidia’s DLSS, FSR 2.0 no longer uses machine learning. Accordingly, no special graphics card is required. The technology works with almost every GPU and can even be used on consoles. If you want to see FSR 2.0 in action, you should definitely try AMD’s demo to see how it differs from other rendering methods.
