The localization of Uppers is a very long story. And it doesn’t end well. English trophy lists appeared in 2016, followed by the announcement of the action game for PlayStation 4 and PCs for the West in 2018. Now suddenly XSEED Games announced that Uppers will be released on October 21, 2020 for 29.99 euros on Steam. Cool!
But wait: what about the PS4 version? XSEED admitted to Gematsu that the PS4 version is no longer in development. In other words, it has been canceled. In Europe, Marvelous is the publisher of the game, but Uppers will not be released for PS4 here either. So apparently it’s not up to the publishers.
The title was released in Japan in 2016 for PlayStation Vita. The version for PCs is a remaster with 1080p and 60 fps. The translated texts support English, French, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (traditional and simplified).
Always looking for trouble
On a deserted island, Uppers puts you in the role of up to 13 characters who are in the eternal fight against bandits and roam the island, always looking for trouble. In doing so, she follows a story that surrounds two men who are looking for their way to reach the top in these skirmishes. The more successful you are, the more popular you are on the island and the more buffs you get to stay victorious in street fights.
The possibilities offered in battles are almost endless. Either you work your opponents with your fists in the classic way or you include the environment. Throw cars, bicycles, or motorbikes at your enemies, throw them in the water, or throw them into a helicopter when the opportunity arises.
