Use Whatsapp with a landline number – this is how it works

Instead of your mobile phone number, you can also register your landline number on Whatsapp. We’ll show you how it works.

If you want to register with Whatsapp, you have to enter your mobile phone number. But what if you don’t have a SIM card or don’t want to register your mobile number with Whatsapp? In fact, there is a solution for this: You can use your landline number to register – and that is easier than you think.

Whatsapp: register landline instead of mobile phone number

  • Download Whatsapp to the desired smartphone (Android | iOS) and install the app.

  • Now tap in Whatsapp on “Agree and continue”

  • Now enter your landline number. In the first small field, after the “+”, enter the country code “49” for Germany, this replaces the first 0 of your telephone number.

  • Tap on “Next”. Check the number and tap OK.

  • Whatsapp would like to send you an SMS. Since that fails, tap OK.

  • Now you can tap on the option “Let me call you”.

  • You will now be called on your landline phone and an automated voice will tell you a 6-digit verification code that you enter in the Whatsapp app.

  • With the correct code, you can then set up your profile and use Whatsapp.
