Vaccination appointments in doctor’s offices from April 19 – the countries only get a contingent

It was only on Monday that the start of corona vaccinations in doctors’ practices broke out, on Wednesday afternoon Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) and his ministerial colleagues in the federal states agreed: From the beginning of April, the vaccination centers in the federal states should only be receive a fixed quota of vaccines. But instead of the 1.25 million doses that Spahn originally intended, the federal states are now to receive 2.25 million vaccine doses. The rest goes to the doctor’s office and will be vaccinated there by April 19 at the latest.

But this time too, the result was preceded by hard disputes. Already on Monday there was a dispute between the federal government and the states about the amount of vaccine that should go to the vaccination centers from the beginning of April, as a result of which both sides postponed to this Wednesday. But also on Wednesday afternoon, Spahn suggested that the countries should only receive 1.25 million doses from April. In addition, the deliveries should be limited to the means from Biontech / Pfizer. In the following months, the amount should then be redefined every month. From March 17, the federal states should no longer agree to new vaccination appointments for the AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines for April and May.

Once again, the federal states refused to follow suit – and made their own proposal for a resolution. In the end, it was agreed that weekly deliveries to the vaccination centers in the countries would be increased – in April there will be 2.25 million weekly deliveries. The expected remainder, around 1.7 million doses a week, are inoculated through the practices.

In addition, countries should continue to receive all three vaccines, i.e. Biontech, AstraZeneca and Moderna. The rule not to have vaccination appointments with the AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines for April and May has been deleted.

However, individual countries can now declare an “opt-out” to the Ministry of Health until March 19, 2021. This means that they do not want to take part in the vaccinations in practices in April. It is unlikely that a country will do that.
