Van Gerwen puts Petersen over the knee in a beautiful fight

The route for Van Gerwen to the final of the World Grand Prix was not easy in advance, Krzysztof Ratajski was already a tough customer in the first round and Devon Petersen, the man in form, had to be conquered in the last sixteen. The South African won a Euro Tour tournament at the end of September and threw the most 180 scores of all players during the Autumn Series: no fewer than 75 over five days. Van Gerwen was warned and a warned man counts for two: Mighty Mike was not surprised in the first set despite good play by Petersen and won him in a fifth and decisive leg.

Van Gerwen hands out a painful blow

De Brabander kicked off the second company with a 146 finish and with that Van Gerwen wanted to make it clear that he did not want to be let down. He simply played too well for Petersen, who did not make a bad impression himself but could not touch the top level of MVG. It was thanks to mistakes in Mighty Mike’s last leg that the South African suddenly had a huge opportunity to take the set in the last leg of the set. However, the nerves played tricks on Petersen and he dropped six arrows to the 1-1, after which our compatriot made up for his mistake and celebrated with a characteristic roar.

For example, the score was not even after two sets, but well in favor of MVG and he only had to finish the match. After a first leg in which Van Gerwen got away with a win, which was a flashy fourth and Petersen was not exactly happy with that, the final result was set. The darter from Vlijmen did not let The Spartan in the match and decided the nice darts fight in his favor. On Saturday evening, Mighty Mike will be back on stage in Coventry. The number one in the world will then play in the quarterfinals against Simon Whitlock, who was too strong for Mervyn King earlier on Thursday evening.
