Spearhead of the German group’s global electric offensive, the Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV is expected to account for a third of the manufacturer’s production volumes.
The ID.3 barely makes its way into showrooms that Volkswagen is already thinking about the next step. Designed on the same platform as the compact, the Volkswagen ID.4 fits into a much more popular segment, that of compact SUVs. A model that the manufacturer positions as the flagship of its global offensive. It must be said that the ID.4 will be the brand’s first model to be launched on several continents. Where the Volkswagen ID.3 is limited to the European market alone, the German SUV will also be available in China and the United States.
“Volkswagen wants to become the world market leader in electric mobility – but it won’t happen by itself. The Volkswagen brand is investing around 11 billion euros by 2024. As a compact SUV, the ID.4 has the best conditions for success on a large scale in all important markets ” said Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of the brand.
By 2025, Volkswagen has set itself the goal of producing 1.5 million electric cars each year. According to the boss of the brand, the Volkswagen ID.4 should represent a third of the volumes, or 500,000 vehicles per year.
