VW ID.Buzz / Microbus: Questions & answers on the electric VW bus
Prices and e-car premium
The prices are ambitious, VWN is paying dearly for the myth of the “VW Bus” with the implied T1 look (the T1 was the first generation of the VW bus that VW sold from the 1950s). The gross list price, taking into account the environmental bonus in Germany, for the five-seater ID. Buzz Pro 56,606.30 euros. So that’s over 56,000 euros for a minibus with only five seats! Because unlike the current VW bus (T6.1) with a combustion engine, the ID.Buzz does not offer 6, 7, 8 or 9 seats. The transporter variant ID. Buzz Cargo is available from EUR 38,240 net or from EUR 46,455.60 gross after deducting the environmental bonus. Volkswagen Leasing GmbH offers leasing from EUR 661.00 gross for the ID. Buzz Cargo and EUR 693.00 gross for the ID. Buzz Pro on.
Incidentally, the above prices deviate from the prices recently leaked by an authority: This is how much the VW ID.Buzz – authority leaked price costs.
Since the net list price is over 40,000 euros, you do not get the full e-car subsidy of 9,000 euros, but only 7,500 euros (5,000 euros from the federal government and 2,500 euros net from VWN). The manufacturer’s share is automatically deducted from the net list price and thus reduces the statutory sales tax. The application for the federal share of the environmental bonus must be submitted no later than one year after approval using the electronic application form at www.bafa.de.
At the start of advance sales you will only get the ID.Buzz in the ID.Buzz Pro variant. Both ID.Buzz Pro and ID. Buzz Cargo come standard with a fully networked infotainment system, multifunction steering wheel, LED headlights, automatic climate control, cruise control (no ACC – that costs extra) and assistance and warning systems such as “Car2X”.
At the ID. Buzz Pro also comes with Lane Assist as standard. For further equipment of the ID. Buzz Pro includes evasive assistance (makes it easier to evade emergency braking), turning assistant (warns and brakes if there is oncoming traffic while turning), emergency brake assistant “Front Assist” with pedestrian and cyclist detection, the proactive occupant protection system (closes the windows before a potential accident, among other things), Traffic sign recognition and parking aids front and rear, “Air Care Climatronic” including 2-zone temperature control, stationary air conditioning and activated carbon filter (with the ID. Buzz Cargo only 1-zone automatic air conditioning).
The Pro driver looks at a 5.3-inch “Digital Cockpit” and at the 10-inch infotainment touchscreen. Carplay and Android Auto are on board. You can also order higher quality infotainment systems for a surcharge. Then there is, for example, the “Discover Pro” navigation system or a 12-inch touchscreen.
In addition, the ID. Buzz Pro has two sliding doors, electrically adjustable, folding and heated exterior mirrors, tinted rear windows and 19-inch black alloy wheels. 235 tires are used at the front and 255 at the rear. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles offers the ID. Buzz Pro is available in “Monosilver Metallic” as standard and optionally in ten other color variants, including four two-tone exterior paint finishes.
Both models have a lithium-ion battery with 77 kWh (82 kWh gross) and are powered by a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor at the rear with 310 Nm of torque. VWN states the official WLTP consumption as 20.6 kWh/100 km (Cargo: 20.4 kWh/100 km). The range is theoretically up to 423 kilometers (Cargo: 425 km). At a DC fast charging station, the battery should be recharged from 5 to 80 percent of its capacity with a maximum charging power of up to 170 kW after around 30 minutes.
Behind the rear bench seat is a 1,121 liter trunk (when loaded up to the height of the standard luggage cover). If the rear seat is folded down and the entire storage space is used, the volume is 2,205 liters.
In addition to the standard equipment, VWN offers many extras for the ID.Buzz Pro, with which the purchase price can be significantly increased. Among other things, a folding trailer hitch or a design package with, among other things, “IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights” and dynamic main beam control as well as dynamic cornering lights. There are also other equipment and style packages.
