VW Tiguan 3: The compact SUV is getting fit for the new edition

Tiguan number three is under development. It shouldn’t be too long before the generation change, because the upcoming Tiguan will be doing its test laps with only light camouflage. AUTO BILD expects the successful compact SUV to be presented in the course of 2023. The market launch could then take place in 2024.

Even if the Erlkönig disguises itself as the current Tiguan generation, the special features of the third generation can already be seen. Starting with narrower headlights and an apparently much slimmer radiator grille that is reminiscent of the look of the Golf and ID.4. Underneath in the apron, a large air inlet with a coarse grid insert can be seen – framed by other air inlets. In profile, the rather squat shape of the vehicle is noticeable.

The rear overhang of the upcoming Tiguan seems to have become larger: an indication of more space in the trunk.

The continuous sheet metal fold at the level of the door handles has been omitted in favor of visually accentuated wheel arches. The design language is rounder, more organic than in the linear Tiguan 2. The wheelbase seems to be slightly larger than before – which could speak for a more spacious interior.

The shape of the rear overhang also suggests that the upcoming Tiguan could have a larger trunk. There are apparently narrower taillights.

MQB basis means combustion engine and plug-in hybrid

The Tiguan will continue to be available as a combustion engine; after all, as far as we know, it will continue to be based on the MQB combustion engine platform. On the drive side, this gives the engineers the option of continuing to use the engines they are already familiar with. Above all, the revised 1.5 TSI evo2 should be used, which means that plug-in hybrid versions are also considered set.

The proven 2.0 TDI will probably do its job for the diesels. The price will probably increase, AUTO BILD expects 35,000 euros for the base Tiguan. The entry-level model currently starts at 31,545 euros.
