Sometimes nothing beats a hot dog and we have to confess that we got quite captivated by it after an episode of the Netflix series The Chef Show. In it, chef Roy Choi makes, together with director Jon Favreau, his famous “L.A. Dirty Dog “. In other words: hot dogs with bacon and bell pepper, as you find them at food trucks in Los Angeles.

For 4 hot dogs:
- 4 sausages (we used the wild boar sausage with IJbier van Wild van Wild)
- 4 hot dog buns, cut open at the top
- A tablespoon of soft butter
- 4 slices of bacon
- 1 red pepper, cut into strips
- 1 yellow pepper, cut into strips
- 1 green pepper, cut into strips
- 1/2 white onion, in half rings
It seems that the people of Los Angeles prefer to eat these hot dogs with bacon and bell pepper after going out, if all the restaurants are already closed, but the food trucks are still cooking hard.
For this recipe, we recommend that you look for good quality sausages (we used the wild boar sausages with IJbier van Wild van Wild: súpelerkker!). And if it works, do the same for the hot dog buns. If you cannot find it, you can use white dots for it.
Hot dogs with bacon and bell pepper
Spread the hot dog buns on the inside with the soft butter, open them gently and fry them in a dry frying pan on the buttered side until they start to brown. Turn them over and let them bake briefly on the other side. Set aside.
Fry the bacon in a large frying pan until it is golden brown and crispy. Drain on kitchen paper.
Then put the bell pepper and onion in the bacon fat and let them fry until they are nice and soft and sweet.
Meanwhile, also bake the sausages according to the instructions on the package.
Place the sausages in the hot dog buns and place a slice of the bacon next to them. Spread some of the mayonnaise on top and spoon the bell pepper and onion on top. Finish with some ketchup and mustard to taste.
