Maurits Vande Reyde, Flemish Member of Parliament and ships in Diest for Open Vld, has been carrying out a real copy-paste operation for months. Since October 2019, he has taken over the tweets from sp.a chairman Conner Rousseau, albeit with slightly adapted headers and images. Commenting on Twitter, Vande Reyde says that he also has “internet and newspapers”. He also accuses his critics of bullying.
Maurits Vande Reyde clearly knows all too well that being ubiquitous on social media is essential for a contemporary politician. However, he often lacks inspiration. That is why Vande Reyde cheated on sp.a chairman Conner Rousseau several times in recent months. The copying behavior was discovered by the Twitterer Zohra Van Zelzate. In recent days, the Open Vlder even went into overdrive. An anthology:
1. The news about the closure of the corona department at AZ Sint-Lucas Ghent:
2. The flower photo:
3. The McDonald’s News:
4. The living room speech (including houseplant):
5. The Day of the Fire Brigade:
6. The April 1 tweet:
7. Rousseau and Vande Reyde share the exact same picture:
8. The tweet about nursing students:
9. Day 40 and day 41 of the “lockdown”:
10. The Tweet About Down The Road:
11. The news about the sleeping pills:
With this last double tweet, Vande Reyde has undeniably betrayed himself. In February, Conner Rousseau shared an article from Het Nieuwsblad in October. A few hours later, Maurits Vande Reyde posted the exact same article on Twitter. Coincidence now seems very unlikely.
Reaction Vande Reyde
Vande Reyde’s copying behavior came to light on Twitter, and the negative criticism was evident. The Open Vld’er now reacts aggrieved to the criticism. Vande Reyde accuses his critics of “the better bully level”.
“Never had anything stolen from anyone,” he says. “Never had any need for it. Not with 40 followers, not with 40,000. Hand on heart. It’s funny how advocates of debating hygiene become the biggest cyberbullies for others. ”
Vande Reyde was also asked, or rather the challenge, to post an original tweet on the occasion of Mother’s Day. “Hopefully somebody with a mom of eleven children who will post about it tomorrow,” said the young liberal.
“We also have internet and newspapers”
Another response from Vande Reyde shows that the Open Vld’er does not tweet in his own name, but employs an employee for it. “Out of respect for his work,” Vande Reyde once again addresses his critics in response to their “ridiculous attacks”: “This is ridiculous. Nothing comes from your colleague. In fact, none of that content is yours (referring to sp.a, ed.). ”
“We (Open Vlds, ed.) Also have internet and newspapers,” Vande Reyde continues. “The logo is already there in the elections, much earlier than you. If someone were to steal something … Chances are it will be Mother’s Day tomorrow and shops will open on Monday. I say it in advance. Thank you for following me so intensively. ”
