After the Olympic Games, the Dutch football players not only have to say goodbye to national coach Sarina Wiegman, but also to her assistant Arjan Veurink. The 34-year-old Veurink goes with Wiegman to England. “I could not and did not want to let this opportunity pass”, says Veurink, who has been Wiegman’s right hand at the ‘Leeuwinnen’ since the beginning of 2017.
Veurink previously worked as the head coach of the women of FC Twente, with which he became champion four times. As part of the coaching staff of Orange, he celebrated the win of the European Championship in 2017. Two years later, the football players reached the final at the World Cup in France, in which the American women were too strong.
Wiegman already signed a contract with the English federation in August last year. The 51-year-old national coach of Orange will switch after the Games next summer. Veurink was mentioned as her possible successor. In the absence of Wiegman, he sat on the couch twice as the person with ultimate responsibility at the end of last year.
