In Windows 10, you can switch the blue light filter on permanently or for certain hours. That’s how it’s done.
How to enable the blue light filter in Windows 10

We’ve all read the reports: Blue light can play a role in sleeping problems. Fortunately, in addition to turning on a blue light filter on your smartphone, you can also turn it on in Windows 10. It’s actually pretty easy – it only takes a few minutes to set up. That’s how it works.
Step 1: Find the right setting here
The easiest way to find the night mode is to use Windows 10’s search function. In the search box on the taskbar, just type “night mode” and then hit Enter.
Alternatively, call up the Windows settings and then “System” and “Display”. A link appears at the top that leads to the “Settings for night mode”. You can activate the night mode permanently (with “On”) or deactivate it (“Off” corresponds to the standard setting) using the switch.
Step 2: Activate night mode
Here is an example of what the night mode settings look like when you have activated the function, selected the option “Schedule night mode” and “Set hours”:

Click the “Activate Now” button to start filtering blue light immediately. Move the Strength slider to increase or decrease the amount of blue light that Windows 10 eliminates.
Never used a blue light filter? Before turning on Night Mode, you can first play with the Strength slider to preview how your screen will look at different intensities.
You can also click the gray “Schedule Night Mode” switch to limit blue light filtering to specific hours. Set a length of time for the blue light filter to be activated and you’re good to go. Windows can also adjust the schedule to the actual sunset times at your location. All you have to do is activate location services. If this setting is disabled on your system, a link to the location settings will automatically appear.
That’s it. You are done!
If you want more options
For most people, Windows 10’s built-in blue light filter does a good job. However, if you want more control, you can resort to a third-party app. We recommend f.lux, a free program that offers more precise settings for blue light filtering and a continuous schedule for day and night intensity.

With f.lux you can set a lower intensity of the blue light filter during the day and then switch to a much stronger blocking. The program can even do this for you automatically, if you wish, based on the type of lighting in your home and your location.
