Attention: If you are still using version 20H2 of Windows 10 on May 10, 2022, you must update to a more recent version. This version of Windows 10 will receive security updates for the very last time on Patch Day in May. After that it’s over. Microsoft expressly points this out in this support article.
Affected by the end of support are:
-
Windows 10 Home Version 20H2
-
Windows 10 Pro version 20H2
-
Windows 10 Pro Education Version 20H2
-
Windows 10 Pro for Workstations Version 20H2
“These editions will no longer receive security updates after May 10, 2022. Customers contacting Microsoft Support after this date are asked to update their device to the latest version of Windows 10 to remain supported.” explains Microsoft.
How to determine which Windows 10 version you are using
As early as January 2022, Microsoft had started pushing an update to version 21H2 on users of Windows 10 version 20H2. Anyone who did not comply with the request should urgently act by May 10, 2022, so as not to be left without security updates.
To determine which Windows 10 version you are using, you can press “Windows key + R” and then type “winver” (without the quotes). A window will open with the title “About” showing the version and build number of Windows 10.

Windows Update also suggests updating to Windows 11
If you are using Windows 10 Version 20H2, you should switch to a newer version via Windows Update soon. Windows Update should suggest you update to Windows 10 Version 21H2. Alternatively, you could also switch directly to Windows 11: If your computer is ready for Windows 11, Windows Update will suggest a corresponding update. However, there are still good reasons not to switch to Windows 11.
Windows 10: More support end dates
