Windows 11’s File Explorer gets important improvements that more and more users can now test. Microsoft also has a surprise in store for the taskbar.

shipped a trial version of Windows 11 that finally included the long-awaited tabs for File Explorer. The Redmond company announced this in a blog entry at the time.
File Explorer displays the new tabs in its title bar. With the new tabs, you can switch between different folders in no time at all and keep track of several open folders more easily. The tabs can also be arranged or moved as desired. You can read more about the tabs feature in File Explorer in Windows 11 – File Explorer gets important improvements.
At the same time, Microsoft refreshed the left navigation bar a bit. This should make it easier to access pinned folders and folders that you open frequently. Microsoft also added the Onedrive cloud profiles there. The address line now also shows the correct path when you switch to folders such as documents or images that are synchronized via Onedrive. This should make it easy to see whether you are working in folders in the cloud or locally on the computer.
Rollout takes some time
Microsoft points out that it will gradually roll out the tab feature to all insider testers. So not all testers from the beta channel can use the new function yet.
As a further innovation, Windows 11 has brought dynamic widgets for the taskbar since Insider Preview Build 25136. In the future, the taskbar should not only be able to display current weather data (as before), but also, for example, current sports or financial news as well as “breaking news”.
