Wright played strongly throughout the game, but left a lot on the doubles. ‘Snakebite’ got off to a good start and managed to win the first set 3-1.
Right at the start of the second act, Wright missed opportunities and was broken. Partly because of this break, the set also headed for ‘The German Giant’. The third set also went the way of Clemens, although Wright had arrows for the double in every leg.
In the fourth act, the German seemed to give the final blow. He was again 2-0 ahead and had chances for a set win. Wright escaped, came back to 2-2 and even managed to win the set through a handsome 120 finish.
The fifth set had the same game image. Wright won the first two legs, but it was Clemens who took the set. The world’s number 31 did this via a 144 and 126 finish. Thanks to a fast sixth set, Wright still managed to force a seventh and decisive set.
The first two legs went easily with the darts. In the third leg, Wright got chances from 42, but these were not for him. The match ended in an all-deciding leg and Clemens was the strongest in this. For a place in the quarterfinals, he will play against Krzysztof Ratajski.
