With the appearance of the next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Sony and Microsoft have ushered in the new console battle. According to several analysts, neither company is likely to have the most sales this year.
Instead, the experts predict that the Nintendo Switch will surpass everyone again in 2021. This emerges from the annual survey of industry experts that gamesindustry.biz carries out.
The reason for the rosy outlook for Nintendo does not have to be exclusively a new model, although a Switch Pro in spring seems quite realistic. Rather, content and promotion are crucial, as predicted by Mat Piscatella from the NPD Group. According to Serkan Toto from Kantan Games, the Switch has established itself as a lifestyle product for the mass market. Piers Harding-Rolls from Ampere Analysis predicts a strong console year overall and also expects the Switch to be at the top of the best-selling consoles.
As much as PS5 and Xbox combined
Harding-Rolls estimates that the Switch will sell around 24 million units in 2021. Xbox Series X and PS5 come together according to the forecast to 25 million units. So far, a total of 68 million units of the Switch consoles have been sold. Since its appearance, the device has dominated the market in terms of numbers.
When it comes to the battle between PlayStation and Xbox, all analysts surveyed predict that Sony’s console will have the edge. This is mainly due to attractive exclusive titles.
