Xbox: September update with many innovations

With the September update, Microsoft has revised its game library and offers new installation options.

Microsoft released the September update for its Xbox consoles this week. The firmware brings numerous innovations – for example the color adjustment of the Xbox button on the Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers. By combining the red, blue and green LEDs, users can choose from 16 million colors with which they can customize their controller. Setting is done through the Xbox Accessories app for Xbox and Windows.

New game library and memory management

Microsoft has also revised the game library for Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. In the “My games and apps” view, the complete library no longer only contains all the games that the users own, but also the titles that they have access to with their current Xbox subscriptions – including Games with Gold and the Game Pass. From now on, different default installation locations can also be set on the Xbox consoles. The option can be found in the settings under Storage devices and “Change installation locations”. According to Microsoft, the space on the Xbox can be optimally used by using external drives or memory expansion cards.

Xbox Game Bar for Windows PC

New for PC owners is the Xbox Game Bar. It works with most PC games and provides access to widgets for recording and sharing screens. Here you can also find players with LFG or start chats with friends. To open the Game Bar, simply press the “Windows logo key + G” key combination on the keyboard once. Also new for Xbox Series X/S and PCs with Windows 10/11 is the suppression of party chat noise and the Start Party button in the Xbox app.
