With the Mix Fold 2, the Chinese electronics manufacturer Xiaomi presented its second folding smartphone this week.
The Mix Fold 2 is only available in China for now.
Xiaomi’s new folding smartphone Mix Fold 2 wants to take on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4. With the Mix Fold 2, the Chinese electronics manufacturer has already presented its second foldable smartphone. The Mix Fold 2 is impressive in terms of case dimensions. The smartphone is currently one of the thinnest foldable devices. When opened, the cell phone has a housing thickness of 5.4 millimeters and when folded it is also very slim at 11.2 millimeters. For comparison: Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 measures 6.3 millimeters when opened and 15.8 millimeters when folded.
External display in 6.56 inch format
The Mix Fold 2 weighs 262 grams. The hinge developed by Xiaomi combines alloy and carbon fiber plates and a recessed center structure. In this way, there should be no increase in the unfolded state and the smartphone should survive many folding processes without damage. On the front, Xiaomi installs an AMOLED screen with a 6.56-inch format, 120 Hz refresh rate and 21:9 aspect ratio. There is also a selfie camera with a resolution of 20 megapixels. The main display measures eight inches when unfolded and offers 1,916 x 2,160 pixels.
Leica cooperation and start of sales in China
The Mix Fold 2 also features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 and twelve gigabytes of RAM. On the back, Xiaomi, in cooperation with Leica, installs a main lens with 50 megapixels and the Sony IMX766 sensor. The main camera is complemented by an ultra wide-angle lens with 13 megapixels and a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and 8 megapixel resolution. Also on board is a 4,500 mAh battery that can be charged quickly with up to 67 watts, as well as Android 12. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 will be available in China from August 16. Depending on the storage equipment, the price starts at the equivalent of 1,297 euros. It is not yet known when the smartphone will be available in Europe.
